President Signs Legislation Extending Unemployment Benefits
This week President Bush signed into law H.R. 2642, the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008. Although most of the Act addresses funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, another part of the Act extends unemployment benefits by up to 13 weeks for workers who have exhausted their regular benefits. The extended benefits program terminates March 31, 2009 and is expected to cost about $12.5 billion.
